A Musical Response to Pop Culture

For use as a curriculum supplement, using discussion of song lyrics to support and expand other curriculum and/or to give students the opportunity to use music as a way to begin discussions about life and belief systems.

Listening Between the Lines is a curriculum supplement that is easily facilitated by a youth or an adult. It includes 70 songs, listed alphabetically by title with indexes for both artist and subject. Each song is followed by five questions to help initiate discussion specific to that song. There are also a few questions in the introduction that can apply to any of the songs. Intentional efforts were made to include a wide variety of musical styles and music from the 1960s to the present.

Listening Between the Lines has been designed to be easily expanded to help keep it current and relevant. A 30 song supplement for the original volume is now available.

Due to copyright restrictions, the lyrics for the songs as well as the songs themselves are not included. They are readily available through local libraries and online and specific suggestions are mentioned in the introduction.
